본격 크롭 비교를 보기 전에 상면만곡부터 살펴 보세요.

You need to look at the field curvature of the lenses before crop comparison.

보시다시피 두 렌즈 모두 상면 만곡이 있습니다.아트 85는 왼쪽 부분이 좀 더 앞으로 나오고 오투스 85는 우측이 더 앞으로 나오는 비대칭을 보여줍니다. 따라서 평면 테스트는 실제 성능을 그대로 반영하지는 못할 가능성이 높습니다.참고로 삼양 135mm f2의 상면만곡도 한번 보세요.이 렌즈는 아주 양호하네요.

As you can see from the above,each lens has diifferent field curvature.Thus,please note that the following data obtained from flat wall may not accurately reflect the actual performance of each lens.For reference, take a look at the field curvature of Samyang 135mm f2,which is exemplary.

For another reference, I present the field curvature of Canon EF 85mm f1.2.

EF 85mm 1.2는 비교한 세 85mm 렌즈 중에서 상면만곡이 가장 심하네요.

EF 85mm f1.2 shows the most significant field curvature among the three 85mm lenses compared.

이제 본격적인 아트 85mm f1.4와 오투스 85mm f1.4의 해상력 비교입니다.

Now let's compare the resolution of ART 85mm f1.4 and Otus 85mm f1.4.

예상대로 오투스 85mm는 상면 만곡으로 인해 초점 범위를 벗어낫는지 우측 주변부가 좀 흐립니다.실물 입체 피사체로도 비교해 보죠.

With the above comparison data based on wall plane, sigma certainly looks better at the periphery than Otus.Then, how about comparing them with a three dimensional object? The weak performance of Otus 85mm f1.4 in the corner may be due to the field curvature.

↑초점 맞춘 부분을 보면 개방에서는 오투스가 더 선명합니다.아무튼 평면 테스트와는 좀 다릅니다.오투스를 짧은 시간 만져봐서 더 깊게 비교하지는 못했습니다.

↑The focus is on the eye.At f1.4,Otus 85 shows finer detail than ART 85,though not that much.The result is somewhat different from the plane test.Please note that Otus 85mm f1.4 shows better longitudinal color aberration control.I miss that I could not compare it deeper since I borrowed the Otus 85mm f1.4 for only a short time.

끝으로 보케 비교입니다.

Finally, it is Bokeh comparison.

결과는 아주 비슷합니다.

Except the difference in the angle of view,the bokehes of both lenses are very similar.

5DsR에서의 제가 가진 아트 85mm f1.4의 개방 성능은 살짝 아쉬운 수준으로 생각됩니다.

With 5DsR,wide open resolution of my ART 85mm f1.4 sample is not  entirely satisfactory.

에스엘알렌트에서 5DsR과 EF 85mm f1.2를 빌려서 해상력 비교를 해보았습니다.결과는 다음과 같습니다.

 I have rented 5DsR and EF 85mm f1.2 from SLRRENT and compared EF 85mm f1.2 with Sigma ART 85mm f1.4.The result is as follows:

시그마 아트 85mm f1.4는 개방에서도 최주변부까지 우수한 해상력을 보여줍니다.EF 85mm f1.2는 개방에선 중앙부만 좋은 해상력을 보여줍니다.f5.6이 되어서야 그나마 비슷한 결과가 나오는데 그래도 여전히 조금 딸립니다.

Even with 5DsR,Sigma ART 85mm f1.4 shows good resolution from the wide aperture even in the extreme corner.EF 85mm f1.2 is good only in the center at wide open.At f5.6, Canon EF 85mm f1.2 shows resolution close to the ART 85mm f.4.,but still a little behind.

보케도 살펴보겠습니다.Let;s look at the bokeh.

먼저 전체적으로 살펴 보죠.Let's take a look at the whole.

시그마 아트 85mm f1.4의 보케가 덜 번잡한 것으로 보입니다.보케는 개인 취향이 다르니 주관적으로 판단하시기 바랍니다.

It appears that bokeh of ART 85mm f1.4 seems to be less busy than that of EF 85mm f1.2.

실제 인물 촬영을 시뮬레이션하여 보케를 살펴보죠.돈 받고 리뷰하는 것이 아니라서 모델은 없습니다.공원에 있는 동상으로 대신합니다.This review is not a paid review, so I can not afford to hire a model. I used the statue in the park instead of the model.

The bokeh of EF 85mm f1.2 may look better in smaller image sizes, but in larger image sizes, the busy bokeh of EF 85mm f1.2 will be noticed.

아트 85mm f1.4의 개방 조리개에서의 상면 만곡도 살펴 봤습니다.I have examined the field curvature of ART 85mm f1.4.

상면 만곡은 좌쪽 끝 부분이 우측 끝부분보다 조금 더 앞으로 나옵니다.The left side is slightly ahead of the right side.That is,the curvature of ART 85mm f1.4 is not symmetrical.As a result, when I take the wall, the center and the bottom right corner are exactly in focus, but the bottom left corner is slightly out of focus and blurred.

올 겨울 첫눈이 내렸습니다.아파트 단지에서 몇컷 찍다가 올팍으로 이동해서 이런저런 장면을 촬영해 봤습니다.

아직 단풍이 완전히 지지는 않고 남아 있어서 눈과 어울리는 단풍을 많이 촬영했습니다.

We had a first snowfall this winter. I took a couple of shots at the apartment complex and went to the park to shoot snowfall scenes. There still remains a lot of autumn leaves, so I took a lot of snow covered autumn leaves..

아트 85mm f1.4는 캐논 5D Mark II에 물려서 테스트를 진행했습니다.All test data of the Sigma A 85 mm f1.4 DG HSM was based on RAW files from the Canon EOS 5D Mk II.

↑보시다시피 85mm f1.4 렌즈치곤 아주 큰 편입니다.무게도 1,130g으로서 85mm f1.4로선 1,200g인 오투스 85mm f1.4 버금가는 무게입니다.초점링 부분의 폭이 아주 넓은 것이 특징인데 이 부분은 사실 좀 불편합니다.항상 매뉴얼 오버라이드가 되기 때문에 원치 않게 실수로 초점링이 돌아갈 가능성이 높습니다.As you can see, the 85mm f1.4 ART is very big and the weight is 1,130g, which is next to 1,200g of Otus 85mm f1.4. Since the the focus ring is too wide, there is a high probability that the focus ring will turn unintentionally due to the full-time manual override.

외관부터 살펴보겠습니다.Let's start with the design.

이미 많이 본 모습이라 외관에서 큰 흥미는 일지 않네요.I do not have much interest in appearance because I have already seen so much.

사양으로 안급할만한건 필터 사이즈가 86mm라는 것인데 괜찮은 보호 필터 가격은 10만원을 넘더군요.다행히 사은품으로 줘서 그걸 장착했습니다.렌즈 구성은 11군 14매이고 조리개 날 수는 9매로서 원형 조리개입니다.최단 촬영 거리는 85cm이고 MC-11을 사용하면 소니 미러리스 카메라에도 사용할 수 있습니다.초점 링을 돌리면 풀 타임 매뉴얼이 됩니다.The lens is composed of 14 lenses in 11 groups and 9 diaphragm blades with a circular aperture. The most notable thing is the filter size of 86mm, which will entail very expensive price if you want a good filter. The minimum shooting distance is 85cm and the MC-11 can also be used with Sony mirrorless cameras.Full-time manual override is possible if you turn the focus ring  . 

본론으로 들어가서,해상력의 전반적인 양상을 체크해 봤습니다.짙을수록 해상력이 높습니다.다만 벽 패널의 색이 통일되지 않음을 감안하고 보시기 바랍니다.카메라와 피사체의 거리는 약 9.6m입니다.As for the resolution,I checked the overall aspect of the resolution. The darker area has better resolution.Please note that the color of the wall panel is not uniform.The distance between the camera and the subject is about 9.6m.

↑보시다시피 개방에서도 주변부가 일반 렌즈들처럼 눈에 띄게 흐려지지 않습니다.조리개를 조이면 f4에서 절정에 이르고 f5.6에서도 잘 유지됩니다.f8에서 조금 떨어지지만 여전히 충분히 좋은 수준이고 f11에서는 회절의 영향이 있지만 괜찮은 수준입니다.f16은 회절에 좀 먹힙니다.As you can see, in wide open, the corner is not noticeably blurred like ordinary lenses. When you stop down the aperture, it reaches its peak at f4 and keeps well at f5.6. It is still good enough at f8 and f11 still shows good resolution. At f16, diffraction has a deep impact.

전반적으로 해상력이 아주 우수하기 때문에 오히려 실감이 나지 않는 분들은 아래  캐논 EF 85mm f1.8의 해상력을 보시면 아트 85mm f1.4가 특히 주변부에서 얼마나 우수한지 체감할 수 있을 것입니다.I will show you how good Sigma ART 85mm f1.4 by presenting the resolution aspect of Canon EF 85mm f1.8.

↑EF 85mm f1.8은 심각한 문제를 보이는데 개방과 그 부근에서 좌측이 심하게 떨어집니다.우측은 좌측보다는 낫지만 주변부는 f5.6으로 조여야 좋아지는 수준입니다.위 아트 85mm f1.4의 해상력과 비교해 보면 그 차이가 다가올겁니다.The corner resolution of EF 85mm f1.8 is very low in comparison to ART 85mm f1.4 and it has serious decentering especially in the left side.

떨어지는 렌즈와만 비교하면 불공정하니 해상력 좋기로 소문난 삼양 135mm f2도 그 자리에서 같이 비교해 보았습니다.It is unfair to compare lenses with poor resolving power, so Samyang 135mm f2, which is well known for its resolution, has also been compared on the spot.

↑삼양 135mm f2는 역시 명불허전입니다.개방부터 빈틈이 안보입니다.개방부터 워낙 뛰어나서 조여도 별 차이가 없을 정도입니다.참고로 위 이미지에서 시그마 아트 85는 왜곡은 거의 문제없는 수준이고 EF 85mm f1.8은 약간의 배럴 디스토션이 있음을 알 수 있습니다.삼양 135mm f2도 왜곡은 문제없는 수준이고요.Samyang 135mm f2 also shows excellent resolution.It is excellent from wide open and shows no drastic improvement when stopped down.You will notice from the above rectangular grid images that ART 85mm f1.4 and Samyang 135mm f2 has no real problem in distotion whereas EF 85mm f1,8 has some mild barrel distortion.

아래는 크롭 비교입니다.비교 편의를 위해서 주변부 광량 저하는 제거하고 비교했습니다.Below is crop comparison.I have removed vignetting(light fall-off) for comparison convenience.

주변부에서 차이가 확실합니다.개방과 그 부근 조리개에서도 미세 디테일 차이가 보이고요.다만 5D Mark II가 그리 고화소 카메라가 아니어서 그 차이를 더 명확하게 드러내지 못하는 부분도 있습니다.The corner diiffrence is evident and micro contrast difference in wide open aperture and wide aperture shows itself.However,the low pixel 5D Mark II is not good enough for more detailed resolution comparison.

색수차는 어느 정도인지 살펴보죠.자동차 후미등의 붉은 색이 너무 강해서 색수차 보는데 방해가 되어 적색과 오렌지색 채도를 최대한 낮추었습니다.Let's see color aberration.I have lowered the saturation of red and orange color since the red color from the tail ramps of many cars was too strong.

↑개방에선 꽤 보입니다.f2.0에서도 뚜렷히 보이며 f2.8에서도 흔적을 찾을 수 있습니다.색수차가 심하다고 할 정도는 아니지만 악조건에선 색수차가 꽤 나타날 수 있다고 보면 됩니다.참고로 점광원이 아니어서 정확히 판단할 수는 없지만 코마 수차는 아주 적어 보입니다.In wide open,color aberration is evident and f2 also shows it.At f2.8,it is minimized.In worse condition,it may be stronger.Coma appears to be minimum level.

주변부 광량 저하도 한번 보겠습니다.Next is light fall-off.

EF 85mm f1.8에 비해서 개방 조리개에서의 주변부의 광량 저하는 뚜렷합니다.Art 85mm has a clear vignetting at wide open aperture compared to EF 85mm f1.8.

하일라이트 보케의 형태도 살펴 보겠습니다.f1.4~f4.0입니다.What about the form of highlight bokeh?

개방에서 하일라이트 보케는 중앙부는 원형이고 주변부로 갈수록 럭비공 형태로 찌그러집니다.조리개를 조임에 따라 주변부 광량 저하 현상이 해소되어 주변부도 원형을 찾아 갑니다.보케 내부에 양파링이 생기는지도 살펴보죠.In wide open, the highlight bokeh is round in the center and it gets distorted in the form of rugby ball as it gets closer to the corner. As the aperture is stopped down, the light fall-off of the corner is lessened and the corner hightlight bokeh recovers round shape.

하일라이트 보케 내의 양파링은 비구면 렌즈 연삭 가공시 표면이 거칠어져서 발생하는 것인데 아트 85mm f1.4는 비교적 비구면 렌즈 가공 흔적은 거의 보이지 않습니다.따라서 양파링은 잘 보이지 않습니다.다만 하일라이트 보케가 완벽하게 깨끗한 것은 아닙니다.The onion rings in highlights bokeh are caused by rough surface when grinding aspherical lens.Art 85mm f1.4 does not show grinding trace so there is no obvious onion ring.However.the highlight bokeh is not perfectly clear. The aspherical element in the ART 85mm f1.4 may be mold aspherical element?

총평을 하자면 시그마 아트 85mm f1.4는 해상력에 있어선 충분한 만족을 줄 것으로 생각됩니다.개방에서도 주변부 까지 상당히 우수한 해상력을 보여줍니다.보케도 꽤 부드러워 보여서 인물 사진에서 큰 역할을 할 것으로 봅니다.색수차는 일반적인 환경에선 문제가 안되겠지만 악조건에선 제법 심하게 발생할 수 있습니다.축상 색수차는 구체적으로 테스트하진 못했지만 상황에 따라 꽤 발생할 수 있습니다.화질적으로는 충분히 만족스런 수준이라고 판단됩니다.문제는 무게와 크기인데 감당할 체력이 되는 분만 구입하는 것이 좋을 것입니다.다만 엄청나게 무거운건 아니니 직접 만져보는게 정확하겠죠.사실 인물 사진에서 해상력이 전부는 아닙니다.EF 85mm f1.2의 경우 개방 묘사력에서 흐림 효과가 다릅니다. 해상력에 치중하지 않고 그런 다른 묘사력을 선호하는 분들은 EF 85mm f1.2가 나을 수도 있습니다.참고로 5D Mark II를 사용하는지라 AF 성능은 평가하지 않습니다.As verdict, the Sigma Art 85mm f1.4 is expected to give you enough satisfaction in terms of resolution. It has very good resolution from the wide open aperture even in the corner, and the bokeh looks pretty soft so it will play a big part in the portrait photography.Color aberration may not appear in ordinary condition.However,it will show in worse condition. Although the longitudinal chromatic aberration  is not  tested,it will be evident depending on the situation.In short,image quality of ART 85mm f1.4 is good enough for ordinary use. The main disadvantage will be the weight.Before you buy,it will be better for you to check the weight in person.In fact,resolution is not all in portrait photography. EF 85mm f1.2 has different blur effects at wide open aperture. Those who prefer not to focus on resolutions EF 85mm f1.2 may be better choice. 

For reference, I do not evaluate AF performance with the 5D Mark II.
